Children’s Hospital
As the Children’s main supplier, we were asked to work alongside RFC Construction on a project which
involved the refurbishment of 10 play rooms throughout the hospital.
Colour Matching
As there were many contractors working on this project from carpenters to decorators, it was important that we ensured the colours were matched accurately. This often meant sourcing different vinyl suppliers or even digitally printing something to ensure that we achieved this. A lot of time was invested in this prior to manufacturing.
Laser Cut Acrylic Lettering
This was used to direct and to identify the area. As acrylic does not come in the chosen colour, we laminated the sheet with a 10 year vinyl before laser cutting it. As this is for a children’s hospital, and because the lettering was running horizontally, the letters were bonded directly to the wall using a high bond tape. Had we used locators, there was a chance that the children would try to climb them!
LED Illuminated Panels
These were used to brighten up dark spaces and act as wall art. Using Shutterstock images, we printed onto translucent white vinyl and mounted this onto clear acrylic panels which were slotted into LED slim line illuminated boxes.
Printed Wallpaper
In the interest of infection control, these were printed onto a 5-7 year self-adhesive vinyl and matte laminated allowing the hospital to carry out deep cleans as necessary. It also has the added benefit of being wiped clean if any of the younger children decided to draw on the wall.
Being an old building, none of the walls were square or oven flat so this made installing the wallpaper challenging. We had to spend time before hand calculating the drops and where to apply the bleed. Not enough bleed would lead to an obvious gap in the wallpaper.
Window Vinyls
Each playroom had different window films. Some were designed to create privacy and so were printed onto silver etch, some were just for decorative purposes and so formed from a mixture of cut vinyl’s in either translucent or solid and some were printed and profile cut vinyls.
