Sandwell & West Birmingham Group of Hospitals, Maternity Department
The previous internal directional signs for the maternity department at City Hospital were causing already flustered visitors to stress. The lettering was too small, the colour contrast too stark and the lack of pictorials left visitors who were visually impaired or did not speak English as a first language at a loss.
Our job was simply. All we had to do was replace the signs with new signs which complied with the DDA, ensure that the department names on the signs matched those which were printed onto patient letters (something which is often overlooked,) increased the letter height to suit the relevant viewing distances and used a fire rated material.
The end result was a reduced workload for the busy reception staff as visitors to the department were able to easily navigate their way.
