Industry leading signage at the ARCADIAN short-listed for major global award – Thanks to HNS Signs innovative application

The Arcadian’s bold new signage, thanks to HNS Signs has been shortlisted for a global award: a FESPA award, the independent global print and signage awards to be held in Hamburg in May.

Competing against hundreds of other nominees to the shortlisting stages, HNS Signs are overwhelmed with the judges feedback and are getting ready for the prestigious event in May.

The FESPA Awards a global print and signage industry accolade celebrates the very best talent globally recognising excellence in both traditional sign and print and digital signage.

Michelle Henry, Managing Director at HNS Signs says of the award shortlisting: “We are thrilled to be shortlisted for a global award. We have worked really hard with Studio Able to deliver such an innovative and exciting signage solution at The Arcadian, which took a number of days and nights to complete.”

Projecting 30 meter long images across the buildings to outline was particularly interesting, especially after dark” – which caught the eyes of passers-by. But it was the only way to hand paint a 30 meter long sign professionally and we are over the moon it has been recognised by a global body.

“The Arcadian project was the perfect canvas for us to not only do what we do best, which is deliver stand out signage but it also showcases how creative and flexible we are and can deliver an award winning approach.”

HNS Signs, creative signage experts were asked to hand finish ‘perspective art onto the sides of the building to bring the site to life along with new, and ‘on trend’ hand painted way finding signage across the center.

Howard Taylor, Creative Director at Studio Able who designed the artwork and instructed HNS Signs says: “We are pretty excited the signage at The Arcadian has been shortlisted for a global award, as it certainly stands out and gives the area an exciting new edge.”

“As part of the ambitious and creative plans we set out, signage was pretty key to the overall look – after all, it’s the first thing you see when you arrive, so we knew we needed like-minded creatives to work with and we are pleased HNS Signs not only delivered, but have been recognised for doing so.”

Five shortlisted entries within the Non-Printed signage category are Harley Davidson in Hungary, Seville FC in Spain, The Devon Lash Dolls, UK, Zenith in Belgium alongside The Arcadian delivered by HNS Signs.

The two-phase project kicked off in September, which mixed old school, traditional sign painting techniques with new technology approached to deliver a big, bold and beautiful wayfinding project to a tired, once loved Birmingham venue.

The brief was challenging, requiring significant evening work, large scale application, restricted access ring traffic management and local permissions, unfavourable weather conditions, and managing existing client conflicts between their supply chain, but the HNS Signs team lapped up the chance to work on one of Birmingham’s iconic nightlife destinations and their tenacity has landed them in the top five global projects for non-printed signage.

Duncan MacOwan, Head of Events at FESPA adds: “FESPA Awards are an annual global celebration of excellence in the print and signage industry, recognising world-class projects and we were overwhelmed with submissions this year. The standard was significantly high, and The Arcadian we are pleased to say under HNS Signs has thoroughly impressed the judging team. The level of detail and innovative application is ground breaking and their ability to work with technology and traditional craftsmen skill is remarkable.”

“The judges, whose industry expertise and standing is greater than mine commented that the Arcadian project is can outstanding combination of traditional sign writing coupled with inspired projection image wrapping around the buildings architectural features with projection.; Creativity at its best.”
