Sandwell Hospital – Education Centre
The Brief
Sandwell Hospital were in the stages of developing a state of the art Medical Educational Centre, which was to reflect the Trust’s commitment to its high levels of education, learning and development.
Wanting to modernise both the interior and exterior of the building, Sandwell Hospital chose award-winning sign makers HNS Signs to create stand-out lettering in a range of different colours to advance the aesthetic and internal signage of the building.
Fit For Purpose
HNS Signs’s good working relationship with the hospital, providing a wide array of signage throughout the trust, ensuring all signs comply with the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act 1995) regulations.
They also increased the letter height to suit the relevant viewing distances and used fire rated material. This helped the team with their work process at Sandwell Hospital as their previous experience enabled them to proficiently adapt and adjust to the demands of a busy, working healthcare environment.
The Plan
The work involved the HNS team working in-house to create the internal signage. This included 2.5metres of orange vinyl, 15metres off frosted vinyl and 4metres of black vinyl that was used.
The external work however was a brand-new challenge to HNS, as it was the first time they had produced external built-up lettering within a healthcare environment and it had to match the framing of the facia perfectly! It was imperative both the internal signage and external lettering was clearly visible, with HNS specifically chosen for its skillset and variety of being exceptional sign writers and graphic designers. This saw a team of two install the external orange signage using a cherry picker, taking one and a half days to install.

The work falls in line with the renovated plans of the hospital, with the Medical Education Centre being modernised and extended to increase the number of lecture theatres and to provide more skills labs.
